In view of the dubious number of new voters, the DAP service centre in Pandamaran, Klang will recruit 1,000 volunteers to bust phantom voters in light of the upcoming general election.
Activating the Pandamaran DAP election machinery today, the area's assemblyman Ronnie Liu said close to half of the 5,000 new voters were registered by unknown individuals.
"We registered more than half of the new voters, but the other half - we don't know who registered them. So we need to be extra careful as (they could be phantom voters)," he said at a press conference this morning.
He said apart from the Pandamaran, Ulu Selangor and Kapar constituencies, both of which are held by opposition candidates, also saw a sharp increase of 19,000 and 18,000 new voters respectively.
He said the busting team was formed specially to combat the dirty tactics expected to be deployed by the opponent in the state constituency.
They will be stationed at the 18 polling stations on the voting day.
"We will monitor the situation. The moment we see foreigners we will go all out to catch them," Liu said, adding that he had stopped six busloads of phantom voters in a by-election before.
The office also targets to recruit rope in another 600 volunteers for the election machinery team.
Bullish on retaining Pandamaran
Meanwhile, when asked if he will defend the seat, the Selangor housing and local government exco said he will let the party leadership decide.
"I am willing to stand in Pandamaran again. But if the party wants me to go for Parliament, I will do so," he said.
Liu, as the pro-term head of the election machinery committee, added that the chairman did not necessarily need to contest in the election.
Asked about the electorate's mood in Pandamaran, he said the voters are favouring DAP according to BN's sources.
"Our sources also indicate that we are well-received, as our 1000-table dinner recently was all taken up," he said.
The activation of the election machinery also saw the launch of a large DAP rocket balloon, measuring 36x18 feet.
Some 40 DAP supporters attended the event, and donned the DAP caps and vests which were distributed on the spot.
